Creative play - Double Dare Ya - Abstract Art Canvas Paintings

It's me!

Sometimes, when I create outside of the fan art you probably know me for (actually most times), I have no real clue what the outcome will be. I haven't planned anything, I don't have any pre conceived ideas about how I want it to look when I'm finished. For me, creating is more about the journey than the destination. There is something extremely cathartic about the process of laying down colours and shapes based on what I'm feeling right in that moment.

Here's one of those little journeys. This recycled canvas started out as a photograph of a dry stone wall. My partner, whop has owned it for some years, decided that she didn't like it anymore, and surrendered it to my 'art pile.' When I felt called to, I laid down some white, blues and purples over the existing image, and it ended up looking a little like the ocean. I tore pages from a book about CBT (Cognitive Behavioural therapy) that I picked up from a thrift store, and started placing sections randomly. I wanted to bring a little more colour into the piece, and added the yellows, oranges and the rainbow. To finish (is anything *ever* finished?) I sprayed some old stencils I had lying around. (fun-ish fact: 'You' and 'Can't' came from a lyric stencil I made for a Kylie piece - "Can't get you out of my head" - and 'Double Dare Ya' is from an old Bikini Kill / Riot Girl board I created years back. I re-use everything. Also note to future self: Paint in the sun more often, it makes you happy. Did you enjoy this abstract art canvas painting? Do you paint yourself? Let me know!
